The only difference between highschoolers and preschoolers is that preschoolers get naptime.

I wake up slowly, gracefully,
My head still soaked with the last drops of sweet dreams
One arm under the blanket – warm –
One hand on top, goosebumps sprinkling my flesh
Good morning, Lady Autumn.

Chill spices the air
Douses it in a palette of blue, purple, white
I watch it frisk through the air on child's feet
The wind pushes my shade forward, more cold, a sliver of light across my face
I pull my other arm out

Finishing what the trickster breeze attempted
I draw back the corner of my blinds, my envelope
The speckled robin's egg that is sky greets me
The trees have just started to dip their toes in the emblazoned dyes
If only I could find the paint

The laptop screen greets me as an old friend
Fingertips slipping into creviced keys
And as my breath spills words, I ponder
The loveliness of writing on
A cold Autumn morning
