The Absence of Light
Dark.
It send children flailing into a pool of fear.
They scream out in terror.
For what they don't not know.
Startled and cold.
We cannot see into the night.
We scream.
Devils and demons rip at us with sharp, painful claws.
Their cold, wet flesh touchs ours.
Tingles go up your spine.
You shut your eyes,
but nothing with rid you,
of the pain we feel,
of the sights we see,
of what is unknown.
Shutting closet doors
and hiding under blankets
will not save us.
Hide us for a moment perhaps,
but it will not save us.
Children pass it off as the monster under the bed.
But it is really our questions.
What we don't know.
And what we can't see.
When the sun rises, the monsters leave.
Back into the dark, dusty corners
of society,
of our lives.
They do not dare harm us,
until the light is absent,
and it is time for them to hunt in the night once more.
To remind us, that we are not what we wish we were.
