What the front door.

Darken the lights and leave me here,
I need to soak up the atmosphere.
So let me wander in the dark
Into steel pipes and panel frames.
I’ll grow accustomed to it all
With a few fractures and toothaches.
Every door that I think I can see
Will be a new hole in your basement wall.
It would be easier to admit my mistakes,
But that would defeat the purpose of it all…
-plus you wouldn’t call the ambulance anyway.
Just keep poking and prodding at me.
All these holes will make me like a sponge
To soak up any shards of glass that may fly.
So the next time you set this house on fire
Just darken the lights and leave me here
So I can soak up this atmosphere.

The author's comments:
This is about a bad atmosphere, the speaker's in an abusive relationship. She's locked in a basement with no lights. The abusive 'other' has set the house on fire. When the lady realizes she has no way out, she sits down and writes this. That's the literal meaning. Donne moi votre interpretation.

"What a drag it was to be limited by reality."

I really really like this!

Especially:

"Just keep poking and prodding at me.
All these holes will make me like a sponge
To soak up any shards of glass that may fly."

Superb!
