I have a lot of boxes
where I could have hidden it
little boxes
pretty boxes
secret ones
and ones that even I forget how to open
but I know
that I did not hide it away
it is lost
and since the last loose thread was pulled from my swatch of peace
unraveling like a sock
my childish wishes
I had our children named
all bite each other,
fighting their way
to the back door of my brain
pouring out
it was quiet when they left
but I will check the boxes anyway
