The Heart We Built
The heart we built
the illusion it was strong
standing on pillars of sand
held up but strings of nothing but wind.
The heart we built
the one I in trusted onto you
the one you slipped into your pocket
instead of holding it dear.
The heart we built
was brought down that day
too easily, I didn’t put up a fight.
It didn’t seem worth it -
wasted energy.
The heart we built
was made of paper
and sticks
with the illusion of paint
and concrete.
The heart we built
long gone in the tide
pieces of the wind
The heart we built
will never be again.
