I guess i was always...different
But I never really realized that
When i was in Elementary school
I was part of the best clique in the world
The four of us were unbreakable
When I got to Middle School
I guess I figured that everything would stay the same
And after the first day, I was pretty sure it would
Everyone was quiet
Nobody really talked
I fit in fine
One week later...
...they all had friends
All of them
and i still hadn't spoken a word
Some of them asked me if i was deaf or mentally retarded
I wasn't like them
I'll never forget the day my english teacher pulled me aside...
...and told me a women would be waiting for me after class and before lunch
They thought i was crazy
They all thought i was crazy
they tried to test me for mental illnesses
I was different
I wasn't like them
All the other girls..
they knew how to talk
what to say
when to say it
they knew about clothes
and the latest hair styles
and how to laugh...
I didn't
I felt trapped inside of my own mind
falling
i had come to realize
i would NEVER be like them

Although i've since escaped middle school and made my way to higher levels of education...
it follows me
It always will
Nobody truly knows what it's like to be different...
...unless they look at the world through a different lens...
