Freedom's Struggle
The tears stream down
Her sun kissed chocolate face
And the sweat burns on her back
Where the welts of the whip lay
She has lost her faith
Her hope is slowly drifting
Held down by chains
A human being becomes an animal
And her cries are not heard
Thick thighs, full lips
And a heart of gold
Are called ugly
Evil, and worthless
When it should be loved and cared for
An African Queen in the brown eye’s of her children
But a mule in the eye’s of the white man’s evil
With a persons grace and sympathy
The chains are removed
Feet that couldn’t move ran
Eye’s that couldn’t open cried with joy
Ahead the road, the gate to freedom
Arms that were bound by the sting of a whip
Extended farther and farther until
The cool waters of freedom was within her reach
And her thirst and her hunger
No longer remains
As she is held in the warm gentle hands of freedom…..
