Chex Mix
We used to be the best of friends
A duo like no other
I was her and she was me
You'd think we were each other
Every Thursday afternoon
We'd meet above our snacks
One big bowel of chex mix each
Along with two juice packs
Both of us were very picky
We had specific taste
We'd trade our chex mix with each other
So it wouldn't go to waste
I'd take white and she'd take brown
The pretzels we would share
It wasn't until later that I realized
How much she truly cared
Ally hated brown chex mix
She did not enjoy it one bit
But she ate it every day
Because she knew I didn't like it
She knew me better than anyone
My parents and brothers included
But she struggled inside, in agony
and kept her pain secluded
She didn't tell me that she suffered
Her pain was hidden from sight
I was oblivious, I thought she was fine
I wish I had been right
Ally's gone now, two years dead
Which means we're far apart
All I'm left with is a plate of brown chex
and a forever broken heart
