Lines in the Sand
Lines in the gritty sand,
Small in the beginning,
Branching into sharp edifices.
Unnoticeable at first, like the innocent
Cracks in the wall- innocuous
-but with the potential to expand,
ever threatening.
Collapse.
Gradually flooded, ever shifting, always moving,
Temporarily ebbing, flowing back and fourth
This is how it is-
An unstoppable force,
Each greater than the next.
Pushing us towards the inevitable future,
With no chance of holding-
On to the fragments of change.
Scattered across the sand,
Branches spreading further,
Enveloping our beings,
In their spidery grip.
