Smiles and Laughter
I’m going to miss it here
Never an encounter with the people
A mandatory smile and polite laugh is as far as we could venture
But I feel the bond
The unspoken agreement
The universal understanding
of acceptance
For in that smile was understanding, and
That laugh?
the laugh was of sadness
For a laugh pushes away
the hurt and the struggling
Brushes it aside
fragile joy for a fleeting moment
Has never felt so good.
So what do we make of
smile and laughter?
Simple masks everyone understands
For we’re the cast
And the audience?
we’re blind to the audience
So take your bow
Bathe in the sharp applause.
Don’t you dare take off the veil:
smiles and laughter.
You do want praise
Don’t you?

I love this poem too. You described and almost personified laughter amazingly. Very, very nice :)
