The taunts
The slurs
The critique
That penetrated my thought

I have accepted

The abuse
The neglect
The rejection
That left me distraught

I have accepted

The shame
The mortification
The disgrace
I felt deep inside

But they were
Self-inflicted wounds
Products of my mind
