Forgiveness
The air around cracks with hatred between us
Our voices rise as surrounding sounds dim
Harsh words cut through me equal to mine
My only thought is to hurt you as you've hurt me
Last words shouted, loudest yet, followed by silence
Shaking with anger and fear, with a reckless mind
Hatred courses through me, turning me dangerous
Then time to think brings regret, sorrow, and shame
Tears flood my eyes as I see your face; angry, hurt
"This is my fault" my mind repeats again and again
Your pain is of my doing,I did this, I hurt you
To reach for you means to make amends
As you jerk away I flinch, then my heart breaks
Now filled with despair, only waiting for what might come
 ...A single touch
Soft, tender, shocking with such emotions
 Forgiveness, relief, hope, love
Responding with another touch, no more is said
 Peace comes for a time
