Toothaches
In my eyes you still love us.
You still know me, and can
hold my hand and remember.
In my eyes you’re still here.
In days from now I’ll be
somewhere different.
You’ll still be lost, fighting
memories and familiar faces.
In my eyes you’re still here.
It gets harder to pretend.
When things look dark, and when you
know light won’t come back.
I fear there’s only one light
left for you to see.
In my eyes you’re still here.
It makes me wonder, too.
Maybe you’ll be saved by what I
don’t think can save myself.
Perhaps you deserve wings of an angel.
In my eyes you’re still here.
By the time I’m done you’ll
be gone. To some place where
hope can find you smiling.
In my eyes you’re still here.
In your eyes I am nothing.
In your heart I’ll bury mine.
Because I know you’d remember
if you could.
