I have a dream...

Sun! Sun!
The parched lips
the water drops
evaporates
when it falls
On thirsty Earth

Hands up
In the air
Praying
Calling
for mercy
for rain

Look up
The sky
Is clouding over
Dark clouds
Promising rain
Smile around

----------

Rain! Rain!
Joyous faces
The water drops
Splashes
When it falls
On delighted Earth

Arms wide
In the rain
Smiling
Laughing
As rain goes on

But Oh!
The land
Is watering up
Broken walls
Fall down
In floating debris

----------

Rain Storm!
The horror look
The water drops
Destroys
When it falls
On flooding land

Hands up
In the air
Praying
Calling
For mercy
For rain
To stop

Look again
The rain
Is stopping
Stagnant pools
Left behind
As its mark

----------

Sun! Sun!
The rivered land
The sun’s ray
Shines
When it falls
On new-born lakes

Arms out
In the water
Wading
Swimming
As dear ones
Drown

Oh look!
The Earth
Is soaking
The water
Drains down
To unknown depths

----------

Sun! Sun!
The sponged land
The hot sunlight
Dries
When it falls
On wet Earth

Arms out
On the land
Digging
Spading
To rebuild
What was lost

Look around!
The Lord
Is helping you
New plants
Grow again
On fertile lands

----------

Rain! Rain!
The cropped field
The water drops
Nourishes
When it falls
On growing buds

Hands up
In the air
Praying
Thanking
For the help
That has come

Look again
The land
Is smiling
Green Valleys
Fertile rivers
Resurrected.

The author's comments:
I wrote this poem about the disastrous floods that hit Pakistan in 2010. I saw all this in front of my eyes, the drowned land, people's despair and it left a deep impression in my mind. I helped the flood affected people in my way but I feel that it wasn't enough. The poem here focuses more on the results of the flood, both good and bad.
