"If I knew where poems came from, I'd go there"

- Michael Langley, 'Staying Alive'

The Sea
She comes about to greet us softly.
Only when in a good mood though, for if you anger her, beware!
She will turn violent,
tossing and turning like an upset child.
Opening her jaws wide, she wails with frustration.
Be careful around her, for she is selfish.
She does not willingly give back what she takes.

The Moon
She is a shy one, the Sun’s younger sister.
Bit by bit, everyday of every year
She starts to hide her face behind a black veil.
Then, very cruelly, her cousins the Stars rip the veil from her face and scatter its pieces everywhere.
So until she finds the bits of her mask once more,
her beauty is there for all of Earth to see.

This is really two poems I wrote in 7th(?) grade that personify the moon and the sea. I thought that they were too short to submit at seperate times.

I don't need a rose. I want a daisy you picked for my hair. I don't want some fancy box of chocolate. I want a pink frosting cookie you made just for me. Lets skip the upscale restaraunt and have a picnic in the park.

Personification is a lot of fun to play with, and I think you did a fantastic job with these. The beginning of "The Sea" was excelent. The longer, more gentle lines showed the docility of the sea, and as the poem progressed, it got choppier as you told about "her" anger. That was really, really good. Also, i love how you personified the moon as a woman; I haven't heard that take too often. It's usually the man in the moon that gets scribbled about.
