Genevieve Leaves
She sits
In the seat she sat in
 For years

 As she thought
 About her dreams
 And her fears

 Hoping,
 Thinking,
 That maybe
 Someday

 She would
 Be able to change
 To fly far away

 To another place
 Where she is safe
 And has a home

 But this day
 Will never come
 She will always be
 Alone

 Genevieve knows

 So she cries
 One last tear
 And then stops

 She walks
 To her baby sisters crib
 And her heart drops

 As she kisses
 The sweet little child
 Goodbye
 For the last time

 Genevieve sits
 At the kitchen table
 And writes the letter
 Explaining why

 She has left
 And gone away for good
 Never to return

 Genevieve takes one more look
At the place she has lived for years
 And hopes that, finally,
The longing will cease to burn
