A Summer's Ode to Smelly Shoes

Summer’s the hottest season
of every year.
This is perfect weather
for smelly shoes.
Flies swarm around them like
moths to lightbulbs,
or vultures to dead meat.
Sometimes the shoes smell so much
that dogs bury their faces in them,
and the flies drop dead.
If you look close enough
when it stinks that much,
you can see a big green stink cloud.
I should tell you,
the shoes that I’m talking about,
are my shoes.
