Plunge
I jump,
and
sink,
sink,
sink,
sink.
Bubbles
tickle
like
a thousand
little
feathers.
I
open
my eyes
to
find
my
world
filled
with light.
All
sound
from above
fails to find
my ears.
Little fish
dart out
of rocks
to
inspect
me.
My
feet
find mud
and rocks
to stand on,
everything
seems so
perfect.
So
very
perfect.
All
remaining
air exits
my lungs.
I
sit for
a moment
loving the
feel of
this.
Then
I push
off
of
the bottom
with my
feet.
It’s
several
long
seconds
of
burning
lungs until,
I
reach
the
surface.
Disoriented
and gasping
for
breath,
I
enter
the
real
world.
