What is friendship?
Togetherness, belonging, shared experiences.
But it's more than that;
It's listening, it's learning, it's loving.
Unconditional acceptance.
Letting them become a part of you
While your own seed blossoms in them
In the heart of a friend.
For one who takes without giving becomes cramped,
Uncomfortable in their skin
Too tight.
Friends relieve this stress.
They share burdens,
Working together until the load dissipates,
Until it becomes a blessing,
A bond,
A chain with no weak links,
Reinforced by love and affection.
Friendship is lasting;
True friendship is infinite.

The author's comments:
This piece was written for Vesper's last summer, an event in which youth share thoughts and ideas through music, books, and poetry. Part of this experience was the growing of friendships; hence, I decided to write and share this piece.
