Simplicity Is Beautiful
Creaking open the rusty old iron gate
An obscure entry to a secretly kept circle of cacti.
Soft mud slipping off my rain boots
Dragging along: polka-dot umbrella.
I become the center of a microcosmic world
Air tastes sweeter, like an ice cream sundae on a Tuesday.
Mother Nature has dipped the desert in sugar.
The Earth is at a standstill, one moment at a time
Senses sharpen my gaze lingers
Little fleet feet of chipmunks scurry into their underground homes,
Rattlesnakes shatter the hope of a careless rabbit with a single shake of their tail,
The fresh rain is officially here with a call of the quail.
Sudden peace comes over my little patch of heaven,
My mind is serenely blank.
Muscles relax, a happy little rainbow
Passionately inching its way out of the heavy rainclouds blocking its beauty.
Self-absorbed people retreat back into the chaos of what they know,
They call it home.
Alone, empty, I am filled with the knowledge of exactly where I am.
