Thunder Storm
Dried roses
Hung upside down on your windowsill
You watch the sky cry in the background
Wrapped in your white cashmere sweater
With sleeves all too long
Fingers clinging to the cup of tea
Warming you as you sit by the windowsill
Goose bumps trailing down your legs
As you remember those times
You see yourself dancing in the rain
Back when you could
Oh those summer nights
And sun showers
And you said
The rain washed away all of the pain
But you know you’re still hurting
And there’s only one person who understands
He stands behind you
And leans to kiss you on the cheek
Wraps one arm around your neck
And pulls out roses from behind his back
He stands back to see your reaction
Beautiful, vivid red roses
Bright and healthy
Freshly cut and crisp
Lying upright in your arms
A new beginning
A fresh start
Forget the pain and go dance in the rain
Dance next to the girl you used to be
So happy and fearless
You hold hands with yourself
Twirl yourself round and round
Till the rain has stopped and the rainbow shines
Smiles are back and flowers begin to bloom
The sun comes out of hiding
Everything’s back to normal
In this small California town
