My Sin
As soft as a silky river,
Running through my lips.
It’s heaven made into a substance,
So lavishing with every sip.
The Gods made it themselves,
And Zeus keeps it selfishly.
That egotistic man!
I swear humans stole it from him,
Then we brought it back to our own land.
Naming it Chocolate.
We mixed this chocolate with the juice of a cow,
Transforming the cow into an awful color shade.
Yet the beautiful liquid she makes,
Is the one thing we’ll always drink.
My trainers say it’s a gift to the muscles,
My baby cousin says it’s a gift to the heart.
Yet I believe neither knows the true tale,
The one on how Chocolate got its start.
When you mix the chocolate with the tree’s gifts,
Yes, the forbidden fruits apply,
You can render your taste buds defenseless,
As you indulge and try not to cry.
My parents tell me to leave out the chocolate.
“The fruit is better for you without.”
They obviously lack the understanding I hold,
Where chocolate is the healer to the soul.
Aphrodite must have make it,
Because we all experience the passion.
The weak-in-your-knees feeling,
Where our thoughts become irrational.
The healer. The gift. The true soul passion.
So we’ll steal it all away from the Gods.
Risking our lives to feel alive.
It’s where we’ve always been.
Because with the chocolate we have to know,
Indulgence is a sin.
