Singer Friend
I stood in the small
crowd – staring up at the small stage
as she walked on.
The lights came up
and there she stood – gripping the mic
and looking confident.
As the band behind her
began to play and she started to sing,
I couldn't suppress a grin.
Her voice came through
the speakers. Loud. Excited.
Strong.
The lights flashed as she sang
- coolly looking at the crowd.
Like a pop star.
An image floated before my eyes;
a grand stage. Overflowing crowd.
Cheering fans.
My friend. A star.
A world known performer.
An idol.
The girl I knew -
famous for her talent.
Adored by all.
Too soon
the song ended.
And as the last note faded,
I was brought back;
only a small stage.
Just a small crowd.
The applause began -
I clapped hard as she
high-fived the band.
I was happy for her.
Proud of her.
Still, I grinned,
thinking of all the things
that she could achieve.
I stood in the small
crowd. Looking up at the small stage
as she walked off.
