Goodbyes Are The Hardest
Looking at the wrinkles on his face as he’s taking his last breath a tear rolls down my face.
I watch his heart beat
I reach for the watch on his wrist and whisper “grandpa don’t leave me now”
I want you to be here to tell me stories
Grandpa please don’t go.
Ill clean my room I promise
I’ll listen to what my mom says
I’ll do anything for you
As long as you promise you’ll stay
He grabs my hand and moves the hair out of my face
I’m searching his face for a tear or depress
He leans down to my ear and he whispers those simple words
But coughs between The I, the love and the you.
Then he closes his eyes
I hopelessly wait for him to say something more
But the doctor said I had to go...
I didn't get to say goodbye.
I watch as his heart beats Becomes harder to take
I saw him sigh
Then I noticed I was holding my breath
I closed my eyes and took in the moment
He was gone.
Grandpa I know you’re there watching over me but I’m here, it’s not fair.
I look outside the window searching for you in the night sky
I catch a glimpse of sparkle the twinkle
I used to find in your loving eyes.
