History
It’s like were living a lie
A history told by the people who want to hide
Keep their shame tucked away so deep that no one could uncover it even if they tried
Letting history repeat herself to her hearts content as long as the secrets she keeps stay buried within
“Wade in the water,
Wade in the water children.
Wade in the water”
Let my people go I beg
It’s like music on a turn table,
Unable to continue on just replaying itself for the world to see
But never fully understand because they never lived it.
“Wade in the water,
Wade in the water children.
Wade in the water”
Let my people go I beg because we were born to be free
Never felt the sting of a whip,
The burn of a tongue,
The pain of having your child ripped out of your arms only to be sold away.
Your 12 year old daughter pregnant with a child by the man you must call “master”
“Wade in the water,
Wade in the water children.
Wade in the water”
Let my people go I beg because we were born to be free to live lives better than you could ever dream
You hear these stories,
But I have lives them through the eyes of my ancestors.
Their pain a motivator for me to not honor my history
But Honor my people because they deserve much more than what is given to them through history.
“Wade in the water,
Wade in the water children.
Wade in the water”
Let my people go I beg because we were born to be free to live lives better than you could ever dream if you would only let my people go.
