Favorite Quote:
"Glory in life is not in always standing, but rather rising each time you fall"

We are the angels of Hanukkahs past.
We travel through candles, through oil that lasts
For eight days, for eight years, eight centuries and we
Are searching for lights that are pleasing to Thee.

Many millennia passed since the ne’ir
Extinguished, left Your children in panic- but there,
The Maccabees trusted You, now, we beseech Thee,
Bless Your children for those who fought so faithfully.

We are the angels of Hanukkahs now.
We travel through candles, through oil that Thou
In Your great mercy allows to burn bright;
And still we search for the holiest light.

Look down on Your children and watch as they pray;
“al hamnisim” ,“mah otzur”; they smile, for today
They’re free to study Your voice and your mitzvos so dear-
Bless Your children for the heart-lifting songs that You hear.

We are the angels of Hanukkahs to come-
We travel through candles, through oil that one
Remembers to kindle for centuries, and yes:
We search for the glow that You’re willing to bless.

A flickering candle is always the same:
Inspiring passion and faith, and the flame
You ignited long ago, in the Maccabees’ days-
Bless Your children- for that fire still shines ablaze.

The author's comments:
As a Jewish girl, Hanukkah has always been one of my favorite holidays- when I was little, for the chocolate, and now for the beautiful, luminescent beauty of the lights as well as the stories. And the chocolate. This poem is supposed to be from the perspective of angles trying to persuade God to see the merits of the Jewish people.
