This Town
Dust swirls and spirals
In the lonely wind.
Eternal heat from a bitter sun
Beats upon the weary ground with no end.
Fractured doors hang on broken hinges,
Worn signs swing and creak.
Empty town,
So desolate,
So bleak.
Whispers brush through the air,
But there is no one there to hear.
All living souls have moved on,
And the dead do not like to appear.
And still,
The breath of a living thing stirs the silence
Oh, weary traveler,
Do not pause here,
Where the shadows move,
Where time is unclear,
For the living,
There is no admittance,
In this town,
This town of ghosts.
