Sunflower Seed
I want to be
 A sunflower seed.

 Surrounded by others
 Just like me.
 Their hard, black shells
 Concealing
 Opportunity,
 Growth,
 Beauty.

 I want to be
 A sunflower seed.

 Shed from the confines
 Of unblemished petals.
 Let to fall
 Onto the hard packed dirt.
 A cold
 Unfamiliar landscape.
 An opportunity.

 I want to be
 A sunflower seed.

 Searching for
 Nooks and crannies
 In the firm soil.
 A crevice
 In which I can
 Shed my thick shell.
 Develop,
 Evolve.

 I want to be
 A sunflower seed.

 Pushing my way
 Back into open air.
 Engulfing
 The sun,
 the rain.
 Following the urge
 To achieve new heights.

 I want to be
 A sunflower seed.

 Unfurling the petals
 I once stopped to admire,
 Creating my own seeds
 That, in turn
 Fall,
 and sprout,
 and grow.

I want to be a sunflower seed.
 I want
 To be a sunflower.
