The fire in life

will leap from flames

and sparks of light

spelling out our name

wisps of hair softly entangled

a groundless space

face hidden and mangled

a living taste

of a human thirst

for death beneath us

so skyward we're lured

and we no longer feel worthless

but in this fight

part of a fire

a flame so bright

it will light us, never tire

smoke dancing above us

encircles us more

among stardust, wanderlust

just one more thing to reach for.

The author's comments:
This piece was inspired by a spur- of- the- moment pencil sketch I created… it is of a girl sort of emerging from a fire with smoke encircling her. I decided that the emotion of the drawing could translate well into words.
