Down the Rapid Stream
They are ubiquitous
 They surround us so alacritous
They seem to give us no respite
They’ll return like a candle brightly lit
No matter how hard we try to thwart them
Like a gem they won’t let us break them.

They will glitter in our eyes
 Almost always promising a prize
But always they include the malignant side
And sometimes we find a source has lied.

Sometimes we see a harbinger of their existence
Maybe close or far off into the distance
 Remote they may seem
Time will slip by light as a stream
We try to turn our backs and maybe hum
But it will flow down that stream to come.

We wait either fretful or eager to succumb
If we wait with smiles for it to come
 We think ourselves correct
And we feel no need to try to deflect
But some other times we wait in dread
Heart beating and wishing we could’ve fled
 It could sometimes be excruciating
Leaving us guilt we want to away fling.

 It will leave us joyful
 Or with a doubting pull
It will be reverberating in us
Or as distant as a guess

 It is the questioning choice
That is many times hard to voice.
