and once more the night
flushes away the day
spreads its blanket over
the mass of people crawling out of
the sewers and the alleys and the sweaty clubs

and this is us in all
our prime,
our troubling kind,
and we’re alive with the pulse
beating beneath our feet

but there you are with all
your pride,
you sniveling swine,
sitting at my window
where you look down on me,
where you spit on me,
where you throw dirt on me,
the same spot where you make love to me and oh you,
you don’t care you don’t care YOU JUST DON’T CARE

and when i come home
from marching and storming and screaming and shouting
you come to me
and swear to god you care for me,
that you’d do anything for me,
that you want to be like me
and the animals i run with

so you dance like me
and shout like me
and now you want to think like me,
well go ahead, there’s the inspiration,
now grind it,
now roll it,

and afterwards
if you want to crawl into my bed,
try to wiggle into my head,
and repeat the things i’ve said,
i’ll smile at you, and kiss you, too
but i will never fall in love with you,
‘cos i’m not that vain, baby, oh god i’m not that vain
to fall in love with what i create
