Is the origin of life a seed
bursting forth embryonic petals —

Or is it the lungs
that encase a ripe, red heart
echoing the soft, steel drum whispers
of breath?

While viewing Jim Ridlon's art show in my college's gallery, I wrote this poem about a particular piece called "Ritual Series: Origin"
