Those Feelings
It was that summer night
Cruising down the smoothly paved road
When she opened her sun roof
And I unbuckled my seatbelt, feeling rebellious
I stuck my head out and my hands
Screaming and laughing
Never feeling so free
The wind slapping my face
I stuck up peace fingers
And howled at the moon
It was that summer morning
Pulling in the pot-holey driveway
When I opened my door
And unbuckled my seatbelt, feeling euphoric
I ran out, in my shorts and tube top
Laughing and smiling
Never feeling so at home
My feet beating on the sand
I threw off my flip flops
And embraced the foamy waves
It was that summer afternoon
Pulling up a wooden lounge chair
And unbuckled my belt, feeling relaxed
My shorts fell down, exposing my bikini
Smiling and soaking
Up the sun that kissed my face
I took a deep breath
And listened
It was that autumn morning
Pulling up in the familiar parking lot
And unbuckled my seatbelt, feeling depressed
I got out, entered the school
Frowning and drowning
Out the world with my headphones
I looked around
And sighed
