The Wish I Knew
Before I met you
 I was depressed
 Before I was whole
 I was in pieces
 Scattered across the floor

 Before I knew you
 I thought you were
 Just another guy
 Who would leave
 Me while I cry

 Before I left
 You’d curl me back
  under your arm
 And ask why?

 I let you go
 Before you
 Could ever hurt me
 I ended it
 Before it even started

 I am not one
 To forgive
 I’ve been broken
 Too many times
And I was not going to be
 Vulnerable

 But you were
 The wish I knew
 You were different
 And I left you

 I will be lonely
 The rest of my life
 Because I was
 Afraid to take
 One more chance
 But I didn’t
 give you one

 You were
 The Wish I knew
 And I’ll regret it
For the rest of my life

And for that I am sorry
 But I’ve been broken
 too many times
