I am not Shakespeare and I am not Edna Saint Vincent Millay and I am not Mark Twain, but I am someone, I am my self, I am not the next one of them, all I want is to make a name for myself and I will gosh darn it!

A heart broken
a word spoken
a table made of oak
the floorboard creaks
as he shifts his feet
an endearing quirk of their home

Her mind aches
her hands shake
a tear runs down her cheek
his secret curse
she must speak first
his words seem much too weak

A father’s son
a fatal gun
too young to be thrust in the ground
as parents together
morn forever
a child lost not to be found

She knows not what to do
his feelings cocooned
there are plenty of numbers to dial
with hearts sunken
and minds drunken
parents waiting to bury their child
