In a moment, all hope is lost.
In a moment,
you’re told that you’d be better off friends;
that your husband isn’t coming back from combat;
that you’re never going to have those afternoon phone calls with your mom again.
In a moment,
a police car turns on its sirens to make a bad day, worse;
your daughter is home crying from how a man touched her.
In a moment,
you learn that your best friend gave up on life.
There is nothing you could have done.
You are always told.
There is nothing you could have done.
In a moment, all hope is lost.
