clambered to your bedroom
and started performing chest compressions
my hair sweaty
against my throbbing forehead
I brushed back in angst
just waiting for one breath
to make your chest rise and fall
again
the one rhythm
that would bring us both back
your eyes glassy
regained some flicker of life
and I swear to God
I practically collapsed
from shock
as they fit the oxygen mask
over your crooked nose
and you inhaled
I smiled in relief.
Because for one second,
I thought I'd lost you.
