Great necessities call out great virtues. ~ Abigail Adams

You get my back,
And I’ll get yours;
We’re in consensus that
We’re both pretty cool
Like magnets our heads
Clink together, sparking
Creative collaboration
And we become a pair
Of buzzing bees
Unaware of the world
You don’t have to
Pretend around me,
Nor I around you;
Mutual understanding
Comes without effort and
It is such a sweet relief
To feel once again the
Simplicity of our togetherness,
Marked by the ease and
Sincerity of laughter, and
A history of common memories
Her eyes—and hers only—
See me for who I am;
Conversations between us
That stretch long into
School nights—at hours when
Sleep would be wiser—
Are full of my beginnings
And your endings
What kind of love is this,
That in being exposed
There is no fear of judgment
Or mockery? where
The plight of one causes
The suffering of two? where
Pride never falls,
Despite the countless times
She may; and where,
At the end of the day,
We see of each other
The coarse flaws that mar
When the makeup is removed
And still think, She is beautiful
This is the love—
And how tender a love it is—
Of sisterhood, and I am lucky
To know it

I think what is appealing about this piece is its simplicity and its truth; it didn't take me long to write because it flowed so naturally. My sister and I are just the way the poem describes, and I am so grateful to have her friendship and love. I know not all do, but it's my hope that every sister would be able to relate to the words of the poem and experience the power of a relationship free of pretenses and full of support.

A lovely piece by a lovely girl. So blessed to know her! And how true these words are! As a middle child with both an older and a younger sister, i have never felt a love quite like that which we share.
