Hope is the thing with feathers, it perches in the soul, and sings the tune without the words and never stops at all. -Emily Dickinson

Once upon a summer ago,
when the gravel crunched and the trees did blow,
where the sun beat down on our bare backs
and met the kids from that side of the tracks.
How the voices resounded off those church walls,
echoing harmoniously with hopeful calls.
Where the sparks flew up into that starry sky,
and the thunder rumbled and the lonesome cried.
When hopes were dashed and desires flew
when envy is all they seemed to knew.
Where the tree swing never swung quite so high,
over the bank of the cornfield on that chilling night.
When pool water splattered on warm concrete,
and pounding rain blew in sheets.
How that cool air never felt so good,
And the whispering thoughts of
“coulda-shoulda-would”.
And now I sit back and reminisce, of all the times I would have missed,
of what I know now and wished I’d known then,
in that summer of 2010.
The End

My only love sprung from my only hate. Too early seen unknown and known too late.

I liked this poem a lot. I always feel that summers hold something magical and this poem captures that.
