Lonely People
Turn off the lights. Turn on the fan.
Too hot to sleep. Get up, again.
Turn on the light, Turn up the fan.
Get out your journal, you're staying up late again.
Lonely people, out of sight.
Sad People, out of mind.
The pain didn't leave us
in yesterdays light,
So we fell asleep to the sound of rain last night.
Getting late, 12:58
Sloppy writing, across the page.
Beautiful words, phrased just right.
No one to read them, come daylight.
Lonely People, out of sight.
Sad people, out of mind.
The pain wouldn't leave us
in todays light,
and it's harder to fall asleep
to the sound of rain tonight.
Lonely people, Middle of the night.
Want to sleep, but instead, we write.
Turn off the lights, Blast the fan,
Put away your journal. Try to sleep. Again.
Lonely people, out of sight.
Sad people, out of mind.
And unless by some miracle the pain
is gone by morning light,
we will still fall asleep to
the sound of rain tomorrow night.
