I saw a tree standing in a field, alone
Her brothers and sisters formed a line behind her
So close they pressed in on each other
And grew narrow
They scorned and pitied her
Because she had no shelter from the wind and rain
But the branches that survived the storm
Spread wide to shelter
The myriad of forgettable little souls beneath
And someone was safe and dry

If you do something that matters, if you protect someone, a lot of times that means standing alone. Alone from your critic's perspective, that is.
