I pull back the cover,
And I step into a world where
Things are right.
I have the ability to
Do anything,
Be anyone
I want.
My heart is taken,
Held dear in his hands.
My skin tingles as
He touches me
Gently.
I feel free.
I feel safe.
I feel invincible.

I close the book and
I peel back the covers,
And I step onto a floor where
The glass was smashed.
I have the ability to
Do everything,
Be anything
He wants.
Me heart is broken,
Torn up by his hands.
My skin aches as
He hits me
Again.
I feel trapped.
I feel scared.
I feel hurt.

I reach for the book.
I pull back the cover,
And I step into a world where
I'm me.

The author's comments:
Tragic but beautiful, not a personal experience but it's relatable in the way we escape into books.
