Just Like You and I
Turn your back on Mother Nature
Don’t trust your heart’s instincts
They say it’s OK
You’ll be fine without him
But what about my soul?
Everybody wants a piece of me
The world is coming tumbling down
We almost made it
Too bad I was faking it
You only need the light when it’s burning low
Only need the music when your heart breaks
It’s a lonely road
When you’re tired
And you have no soul to warm you
You’ll be home in the summer’s sweat
I can wait until then
Playing my music just a little bit louder
This longing won’t last long
I wasn’t there to claim you
My heart was ten thousand miles away
I never meant to give you pain
I didn’t want to go
But it was time to leave
I had to chase my destiny
I won’t fight for you, without you by my side
You bring to mind all the pain
And the drumbeat of my heart continues to soften
Until it fades away, no emotion
Robotic movements down the hall
Trying to look like I’m happy isn’t working out
When the raw emotion whips like Cheyenne wind
Cutting into my core
The darkest sadness fills your eyes
So unlike the light blue hope that controlled them in July
A tear slips out
Staining the ink of the letter
That you will never read, and you will never see
Folded up, no envelope
Into the blazing, burning fire
Quickly turning into grey ash
The color of your eyes, when I look into them
Emotion seeping into my splintering soul
Trying to fix it, glue it back together
An ember flies, into the dark blue night
Flickering out before it can touch the sky
Just like a faded memory and a stuffed bear
Just like you and I
