An Experiment With an Air Pump
A box
under the kitchen sink.
Where two hundred years ago
a garden used to be.
A box full of bones,
missing a spine.
no story, no note.
A box full of bones
featuring a necklace
and lies.
I trusted him
for the purpose
of love,
he pretended to love me,
for the purpose
of science.
He kissed me,
and made me gifts,
and made me feel
like I was beautiful.
But he just wanted to
see my abnormalities
and what was going on
inside of me
and my bones.
I knew that I would never be loved.
I was a slave girl.
Now I’m in a box.
