Siren
The waters were rough and the rocks hid enveloped in a twisted mist
Ho! he cried beckoning us to tie up the sails
the salty water bit and burned as we scuffled around on deck struggling to restrain the sails
the wind gusted swirling with the foreboding warning
go back go back it whistled
though the wind was strong the fog stayed as though frozen in an unlikely story
our ears strained to hear but every sound was cloaked in this god forsaken fog
the rocks grew becoming pillars as we skulked past
the water seemed impenetrable with an opaque gloomy darkness
everything hung in the air like death
every breath that dared to cross our lips became stale
our sole purpose seemed to become failure and ruin
the water erupted startling our very bleak future
a women whose skin glistened pale and dripped a dangerous beauty
her eyes cruel, piercing and full of lust peered just over the water as her nose and lips did not breach the surface
the boards of the ship creaked and groaned as all the men were drawn to one side
enraptured by the beauty of the aquatic woman
bewitched by the very essence of her being though she failed to take a breath
the water shuddered as the creature lifted her head and began to sing
her low tones sounded like waves crashing upon the lost shore
she softly welcomed the men into her sanctuary
the men's limbs contorted and crippled with the excruciating pain
their tortured cries lost in the enslaving fog
a coldness burned in her eyes as she sang the promise of a quick end
join me in the water men
if you want your pain to end
underneath the sea my friend
come greet me tortured souls
the water knows your endless woes
join me join me friend oh friend
trust me men your pain will end
slowly all the men methodically began to move possessed by her chant
climbing onto the weathered edge of the famed boat
they stood atop the edge swaying slightly as the boat crept on
the wheel stood useless abandoned by the witless captain
the boat splintered like a brittle skeleton against a wall of merciless stone
they fell
tumbling carelessly into the depths of the callous water below
the wicked woman grinned sadistically enjoying the sound of their bodies slapping the water
her eery beauty disappeared below the surface as she dove down to watch the men drown in her haven of lifeless sailors and shipwreck
