I’ll do anything, except say
“Hello,”

and you know,
what’s the one thing you want, if I have to do things “your way”?
No.

Oh,
you think it “would be nice”, well then I’ll neigh
“Hehlloooohh”

and show
how wrong you are. You’ll bray
“No!

He said I should forgo
my awful object, yet I compelled him to convey
‘Hello’!”


So.
Will you let me sit and play?
No?

The author's comments:
A Villanelle, but a somewhat unusual one in that it almost completely ignores its own structure. The conversation fits the requirements, but continues, almost unaware of it.
I think this poem loses significant depth bring pinned to the page. If I could submit a recording of myself reading it, I would.
