Man's Best Friend
She is never more than a few feet away.
When I call her name her ears perk,
beneath her tail the wind shifts
and her mouth tugs at the edges.
 She bounds over,
ready for a hand to touch her belly
or a scratch to ease the tickle behind her ear.
Her tongue finds a sad face.
Her bark finds an eager playmate.
 Her love finds my heart.
