Loss of Innocence
He, her father, laughed at her for crying
As if it was spilled milk.
Did he know how much that hurt?
She wondered if he has ever once realized
How he took her innocence
Like food on the counter.
She thought this might be it
No,
She knew she was done
It was a constant quarrel
With her and her mind
As it became tougher and tougher to hold her own tongue.
Time came, and she accepted
What she never even acknowledged
It wasn't just that he took it
Yes, you can say he took it, yes
but she gave it up long ago.
For it began with him while she was still
so young.
