"The purpose of literature is to turn blood into ink." -T.S. Elliot

I wish I could hate you.
I wish I could scream and yell
instead of cry and think.
Because thinking always leads
me right back to you.
So, I shut my eyes
and numb myself to the memories
of the you that I love.
It is such a cliche
that the hardest thing
you will ever have to do
is stop loving someone
who has stopped loving you,
but it doesn't make it any less true.
It hurts to fill my heart with you,
when your heart is so
empty of me.
And even though I still love you,
the way you would expect me to,
I hope you can't sleep at night
knowing that you broke
my whole heart in two
and tried to spill out its contents
while I groped at jagged edges
and held it all inside.
I hope you know that while
I love you, I despise you.
I hope you know that
those feelings are forever.

This poem is about hating that you love someone and that is something everyone will know someday.
