Five Minutes to Beautiful
Her reflection stares back
 So plain, so ordinary, average
 Dark circles under her eyes
 Begging for concealer
 Fingers reach for the tube
 Of her M.A.C foundation
 Or maybe it’s from Sephora
 A collection of brushes
 To pick from
 A bit more bronzer
Her skin seems so damn pale
 And then there’s the pencil
 Freshly sharpened eyeliner
 Glides carefully along her lids
Does today feel like a cat-eye day?
Or maybe a double winged eye
 It doesn’t matter
A few seconds to make the false lashes
 Set in place and perfect
Years of practice make it all easy
 And as she steps back
 She thinks
 “There, I’m pretty,
Nobody makes fun of me anymore
And I can keep it that way”.
